About This Role

Until is a moonshot company building a “pause button” for biology. Our near-term focus is organ-scale reversible cryopreservation: preserving donated organs at subzero temperatures without ice formation, then rewarming them uniformly for transplant. By solving this grand challenge, we’re laying the foundation for whole-body reversible cryopreservation, giving patients a bridge to future cures.

To achieve our goal, we are assembling an interdisciplinary team to develop perfusion systems, cryoprotectant formulations, and vitrification and rewarming hardware.

We envision a future where no transplantable organ is lost to logistics, and no terminal diagnosis is final because patients can safely wait for future medicine to arrive.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Surgery Technician to join our whole organ preservation team full-time. In this role, you will play a central hands-on role in advancing our perfusion, preservation, and experimental surgical workflows.

The primary focus of this position is supporting and executing complex pre-clinical surgical procedures and ex vivo perfusion experiments, with particular emphasis on tissue preparation, cannulation, surgical troubleshooting, and protocol execution. This role is critical to maintaining experimental quality, reproducibility, and operational throughput across our research program.

You will work closely with scientists and engineers developing next-generation cryopreservation systems and will help translate experimental concepts into reliable surgical and perfusion procedures. We are looking for someone who is highly organized, technically rigorous, calm under pressure, and excited to contribute directly to solving one of the hardest problems in biotechnology.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced experimental environment, enjoys hands-on technical work, and wants significant ownership over critical biological procedures.

What You'd Do:

  • Perform complex surgical preparation, dissection, cannulation, and tissue handling procedures

  • Execute and support ex vivo perfusion experiments, including setup, troubleshooting, and monitoring

  • Maintain sterile surgical technique and ensure procedural consistency across experiments

  • Collect, label, process, and document biological samples and experimental data accurately

  • Monitor tissue and experimental quality and assist scientific teams in evaluating post-preservation viability

  • Support laboratory organization, equipment maintenance, and inventory management

  • Participate in occasional early morning, evening, or weekend procedures as experimental schedules require

  • About You:

  • Highly reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in hands-on laboratory and surgical settings

  • Strong manual dexterity and comfort performing technically demanding procedures

  • Able to remain calm and organized during long or complex experiments

  • Excited by ambitious scientific goals and fast-paced R&D environments

  • Strong communicator who works well across disciplines

  • Motivated by ownership, independence, and continuous process improvement

  • Comfortable adapting protocols and troubleshooting unexpected procedural challenges

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, animal science, biomedical engineering, veterinary technology, or related field

  • 2+ years of experience in pre-clinical surgery, perfusion research, transplantation research, or related fields

  • Experience with large-animal surgical models and vascular cannulation techniques

  • Familiarity with sterile surgical technique and surgical instrumentation

  • Experience with perfusion systems, extracorporeal circulation, or organ preservation workflows is highly preferred

  • Flexibility to support experiments outside standard working hours when needed
